I'm tagging along on this thread. Earlier I made an inquiry on how to do an upload.

The item in question is only seeded by me at TPB. Some details: the production company no longer exists. I do not know if they are holding or renewing copyright on the item. Originally it was found (by me anyway when first viewing) on a rental shelf in VHS at a video store.

The piece is called Signals Through The Flames (1983) on the work of The Living Theater which had a long history since the 60's and continues today under Judith Malina now in her 80's. The production company was Mystic Fire Video.

I have kept the torrent going since I have been doing torrenting after another seeder dropped it. My notes written in 2009 pick up there. It has been going about 5 or more years guess. As archive I think it's important to preserve this content. See notes for more detail.

As suggested, I'm including the link at TPB for the item:

I'm glad that you (and maybe others) are following this thread. However there is an important difference between what you are doing and what I am doing.

My project is to preserve 'for all time' *private* recordings of a specific type of folk dance genre. They are not subject to copyright - or if they are I hold what could be deemed to be the copyright. Performers were filmed on the understanding that their performances would then belong in the public domain. The recordings - about 16 in number - are two hours long - each. Its a big project.

However torrent uploading is not now the big issue for me due to the helpfulness of the Archive.org staff.

Having said all that I am still interested in the actual processes to upload via torrent(s) content to Archive.org

However anyone infringing copyright of commercially produced media, or even thinking of doing so, should be aware that the UK authorities (at least) - including a new £2.5 million funded electronic copyright infringement division of the UK Police - are tightening up big time on torrent sharing of files deemed to be under copyright. This may even include using torrents to upload / download files to/from Archive.org

Also many ISPs are blocking all torrent traffic, INCLUDING to/from Archive.org

Search the web for "thebox closing" for further info. This is the latest private tracking site to close down (voluntarily) but in real fear of future legal action if it continues.

Take care.

Chris,

My reply was really directed at kim who has been answering here. My inquiries are still open and unanswered about the specific item for which I gave a link.

My understanding of the torrent process from archive.org is that it works like any other index. What I don't understand is how uploads such as mine get submitted. If it's simply a redirect to a torrent site, all well and good.

The goal is to get this documentary archived for good and all where other site ups and downs (or those of my own system) will not affect researchers of theatre technique.

Will continue watching here for replies.
